US President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 and has mild symptoms, the White House said Wednesday night.

Biden has already received a first dose of the drug Paxlovid and plans to return to his home in Delaware to remain in isolation.
The White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean Pierre, explained that Biden will continue to perform all his functions while he is isolated in his residence and that, for the moment, he has respiratory symptoms that include a runny nose, dry cough and “general discomfort”.
The news was given minutes earlier by the president of the Hispanic organization UnidosUS, Janet Murguía, at the group’s annual conference in Las Vegas where Biden was scheduled to give a speech.
Just hours before the news was known, Biden had visited the Mexican restaurant The Original Lindo Michoacán, in Las Vegas, on whose walls there were signs of “Latinos by Biden-Harris” and where he took the opportunity to talk with some diners.
Inside the premises, Biden recorded an interview that will be broadcast on Thursday with the Hispanic medium Univision.
Biden, 81, who already fell ill with covid-19 in July 2022 despite being vaccinated with booster, said in an interview with BET News published today that he would reconsider his decision to continue in the November election campaign if a doctor diagnosed a serious medical problem.
